Softball: Bethany Sweeps Waynesburg on Senior Day

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College softball team hosted the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets for a PAC doubleheader at Bison Field. Bethany College honored the two senior softball scholar-athletes prior to today's contest. The Bison swept the Yellow Jackets, 2-1 (8 inn.) and 9-7.

Game One Overview

Bethany 2, Waynesburg 1  (8 innings)

The Bison struck early, scoring one run in the second inning. Kathleen Fuchs singled to left field scoring Jennifer Oberthur. The Bison held a narrow 1-0 lead until the sixth inning, when the Yellow Jackets scored off of a Kayla Alderson pitch hit homerun.

The Bison and Yellow Jackets battled into extra innings. Senior Alex Kopec had a walk off single to center field to score Tatum Barrass to give the Bison the late win.

Game Two Overview
Bethany 9, Waynesburg 7

It was an eventful first inning to start game two. The Yellow Jackets scored three runs to start the game. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bison responded, scoring three of their own. Tatum Barrass singled to score Morgan Huey. The next batter, Madison Andrejcik singled to center field to score Oberthur and Barrass.

The Bison continued momentum into the second inning, scoring three more runs. Huey doubled to left field scoring Paige Allen. Two batters later, Barrass hit a two-run homerun to left field making the Bison lead 6-3. In the third inning, the Bison added one more run from a Yellow Jacket error.

The Yellow Jackets didn't let the last two innings affect them. They scored four to knot the game at 7-7 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bison battled back to regain the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Oberthur tripled to lead off the fifth inning. Moments later, Andrejcik grounded out to second base scoring Oberthur. Angela Brandel singled to right field, advancing Alex Kopec. Kopec would score on a throwing error. The Bison held a 9-7 lead to take game two.
