Softball: Bison Advance to Saturday; Defeating Titans, 5-2

Beaver Falls, Pa. – The Bethany College softball team traveled to Beaver Falls for the PAC Tournament hosted by No.1 Geneva College. No.3 Bethany faced No. 2 Westminster Friday afternoon. The Bison defeated the Titans, 5-2 to advance to Saturday's play.

Game One Overview

Freshman Josie Wise improved her overall record to 16-6 in the circle this spring with a complete-game win for the Bison to open the double-elimination portion of this year's tournament. Wise allowed two runs (2 earned) on eight hits in her 7.0 innings.

The Bison jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first after Tatum Barrass hit a sacrifice fly to score Jen Oberthur. The Titans took the lead in the fourth inning, 2-1. Freshmen Morgan Huey knotted the game at 2-2 after driving in Obethur.

In the sixth inning, Paige Allen hit a two-run double to give the Bison back the lead. Gabby Capaldi drove in Allen to give the Bison an insurance run. The Titans stranded runners in the final inning to give the Bison the victory.

The PAC Championship Tournament winner will secure the league's automatic qualifying bid (Pool A) to the NCAA Division III Championship, with regional play scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, May 20-23. Team and regional sites selected for the Division III Softball Championship will be announced at 1 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, May 17.
