Bison Men’s Soccer Drops Road Decision to Westminster

Oct. 24 – NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Bethany College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Westminster College in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Titans (8-5-2) jumped out to an early lead as a header off a corner kick made it a 1-0 contest in the ninth minute. Westminster notched another score before the half to take a two-goal lead into intermission.

Bethany (5-10-2) totaled six shots in the first period and generated a couple scoring opportunities, but ultimately failed to beat the Titan keeper in the first half.

The Bison kept up the offensive pressure and were finally rewarded as Daniel Booth (Stockport, Cheshire, England/Poynton) finished off a corner kick with a beautiful header in the 86th minute. The goal marked Booth's first of his career. Captain Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) earned an assist on the play.

The Bison's late push, however, came quickly to an end as the Titans scored just a minute later to put the game away. The Bison collected seven more shots in the half for a total of 13 in the match.

Waters led the Bison offense with four shots, including two shots on goal. Freshman Frederik Thomsen (Skive, Denmark/Skive) added two shots of his own.

Sophomore goaltender Richard Martinez (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) played solid between the pipes for Bethany. He recorded seven saves in the contest, playing all 90 minutes in net.

The Green & White will be back in action on Wednesday, October 28 when they welcome Thomas More to Bison Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
