Men's Soccer Suffers 3-0 Defeat at Marietta

Sept. 30 – MARIETTA, Ohio - The Bethany College men's soccer team fell for just the second time in their last seven matches as they were defeated, 3-0, by Marietta College on Wednesday afternoon. The Bison had previously posted a 4-1-1 record in their last six contests.

The Bison put the pressure on early in the first half, as a shot from Bethany captain Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom) was knocked away by Marietta keeper Tyler Sholl to keep the match scoreless at the 1:59 mark.

From there, Marietta would take control of the half, posting the game's next seven shots. The last shot in the run came from the top of the 18-yard box by Taylor Reasoner. Reasoner found the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead at the 18-minute mark.

For the rest of the half, neither team would find the back of the net, and the game went into the break with the Bison trailing 1-0.

In the second stanza, action once again started with a flurry as Marietta put four shots on net in the first five minutes. One of those shots came off the foot of Reasoner, as he scored off an assist from Luke Saunders, and the Bison found themselves trailing 2-0 in the 48th minute.

The Pioneers would tack on one more goal in the middle of the second half as Michael Nauls found the net in the 75th minute to round out the scoring at 3-0.

Despite the goals, sophomore keeper Riley Harrison (Ballarat, Australia/Ballar Grammar)was solid in net, posting a season-high 11 saves.

The Bison will be back in action on Saturday, October 3, as they return home to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Waynesburg University. The match will be a part of the day's Homecoming festivities and is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
