Bison Men's Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Win Against Pitt-Greensburg

Sept. 13 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany men's soccer team won their second-consecutive game after a 3-0 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday afternoon. Captain Jack Waters led the way with two goals and an assist for the Bison.

After winning the previous game on a penalty kick in overtime, Bethany (2-3) picked up right where they left off against the Bobcats (1-2). In the 23rd minute, Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) took a pass from Landon Winstead (Owings, Md./Northern) and scored his first goal of the game.

Pitt-Greensburg had the slight edge offensively the remainder of the first half, but the Bison received a huge boost from keeper Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom). The sophomore goaltender picked up seven saves in the opening period, and Bethany held on to a 1-0 lead going into intermission.

In the second period, Bethany was in control from the start. The Bison totaled nine shots in the second half, and their offensive prowess was too much for the Bobcats to handle.

Sophomore Christian Corona (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) recorded his first goal of the season, finishing off a cross from Waters and pushing the lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute.

Waters scored another goal after he took a nice lob from junior Steven Pluas (Mt. Pocono, Pa./Keystone) and fired a shot past goaltender Brandon Soellner in the 77th minute. Nine different Bison recorded shots in the game.

The Bison defense was able to limit the Bobcat's scoring chances, as Pitt-Greensburg struggled to get good looks at the net. They remained physical throughout the game and wore down the Bobcat's offense.

Appleby was zoned in from the opening whistle as he finished with 11 saves, earning his first shutout of the season.

The Bison men's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 13 when they welcome Franciscan at 4:00 p.m.
