Bethany Men’s Soccer Falters at Geneva

Oct. 21 – BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Bethany College men's soccer team fell, 4-1, to Geneva College on Wednesday evening.

The Bison struck first in the Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup as Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone), making the switch from goalkeeper to forward for the second-consecutive game, beat the Golden Tornadoes goalie to make it 1-0 in the 3rd minute. Freshman Rey Aguilar (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) earned an assist on the score.

Geneva quickly responded with a goal in the 8th minute of play. The Bison defense allowed two more scores in the 17th and 40th minutes as Bethany trailed, 3-0, at the half.

Despite solid defense in the second period, the Bison offense failed to tally a score and ultimately couldn't find a way back into the game. Sophomore goaltender Richard Martinez (Miami, Fla./South Dade) totaled five saves, all in the second half, as he played 90 minutes in net.

Offensively, Bethany was led by Frederik Thomsen (Skive, Denmark/Skive). The freshman collected three of the six Bison shots in the match.

The Green & White will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 24th as they take on Westminster at 1:00 p.m.
