Bethany Men’s Soccer Erupts for a 12-0 Victory

Sept. 23 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Men's Soccer team erupted for a 12-0 win over Penn State New Kensington on Wednesday night. Eight different Bison recorded goals in the victory.

The Bison took the lead in just the third minute of the game. Rey Aguilar (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) notched his first goal of the season after finishing off a corner kick from teammate Frederik Thomsen (Skive, Denmark/Skive).

Bethany would never look back in this contest as the Bison offensive attack proved to be too much for the Nittany Lions to handle.

Captain Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) netted his first of two goals in the 14thminute, receiving a pass from Christian Corona (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) and beating the Nittany Lions goalkeeper. Waters also tallied a goal in the 64th minute.

Freshman Jay O' Donnell (Cardiff, Wales/Radyr Comprehensive) was a force to be reckoned with throughout the match. O' Donnell scored his first goal as a Bison as he fired one from the top of the circle in the 20th minute. He also earned two assists in the game.

Freshman Kai Whitney (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) took a touch pass from Thomsen and calmly beat the keeper for a 4-0 lead. It was his first goal for Bethany as well.

Thomsen then decided it was his turn to score, tallying a goal to go along with his early two assists. Thomsen headed in a corner kick from O' Donnell.

The Bison went into the intermission with a 5-0 advantage. Bethany totaled 24 shots in the first period and held the Nittany Lions to zero shot attempts.

Waters resumed the Bethany scoring in the 64th minute as he captured his third multi-goal game of the season. Waters leads the Bison with six goals on the season.

Corey Ogden (Manchester, England/St Pauls Catholic) recorded two goals for the Bison, scoring in the 76th and 89th minutes. Ogden had a laser from outside the box for his first score.

Sophomore forward Cody Levine (Washington, Pa./Bentworth) couldn't be stopped late in the game. Levine took advantage of his opportunities as he netted goals in the 81st, 85th, and 88th minutes for the hat trick.

Sophomore Abdullahi Abdullahi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) totaled three points in the contest for the Bison. The forward struck quickly in the 83rd minute as he took a pass from Reynaldo Reyes and fired one into the upper left corner for the goal. Abdullahi also assisted on Levine's third goal.

Bethany totaled 37 shots in the contest, their highest total since 2013. The Bison also had a huge advantage with 11 corner kicks.

Sophomore keeper Richard Martinez (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) played the first half for the Bison. Martinez saw little action as the Bethany defense was in lock-down mode all game. Sophomore Riley Harrison (Ballarat, Australia/Ballar Grammar) replaced Martinez and recorded one save on two Nittany Lion shots.

The Bison will be back in action on Thursday, September 24 when they welcome Muskingum at 4:00 pm.
