Bethany Men’s Soccer Defeated by Washington & Jefferson

Oct. 17 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College men's soccer team was defeated, 3-1, by Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening. The Bison suffered their first loss at home of the 2015 campaign.

The Green & White (5-8-2) found themselves with an early deficit after the Presidents' (7-5-2) tallied the first score of the contest in the 16th minute.

The Bison, however, responded quickly in the 21st minute. Junior Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) made his first start for Bethany outside the net, giving the offense a much-needed boost. He netted the first goal of his career on a chip shot over the Presidents' goaltender to even the game at 1-1.

Washington & Jefferson took the lead back as Jason Menni notched a goal in the 35th minute. The Bison trailed 2-1 at the intermission after both teams' collected seven shots in the half.

The Presidents' added to their advantage early in the second period. In the 52nd minute, Tyler Rapposelli scored to make it a 3-1 game.

Bethany's offense failed to capitalize on another scoring chance in the contest. The Green & White totaled seven shots on goal.

Captain Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) led the way with four shots that were all on net. Appleby recorded two shots and Juan Zapata (Homestead, Fla./Southdade) added one as well.

Sophomore goaltender Richard Martinez (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) finished the match with four saves. Martinez played all 90 minutes in between the pipes.

Bethany College will return to action on Wednesday, October 21 when they take on Geneva in PAC play at 7:00 p.m.
