Bethany Men’s Soccer Falters at #17 Carnegie Mellon

Sept. 19 – PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bethany men's soccer team dropped a 7-0 decision to Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon. The Tartans came into the match ranked 17th in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Bison fell behind early as Carnegie Mellon netted two goals in the first ten minutes of play. The Tartans would go on to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission.

The second half saw little change, as Carnegie Mellon added three more goals.

The Bison offense was led by Matt Jones (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) and Ian Shephard (Indiana, Pa./Indiana), as each recorded a shot in the loss.

Bethany goalkeeper Richard Martinez (Miami, Fla./Southdade Senior) did his best to contain the Tartan attack, recording 10 saves in the game.

Bethany will return to the field on Wednesday, September 23 as they play host to Penn State – New Kensington at 7:30 p.m.
