Bison roll to season-opening win over UC-Clermont, 8-0

DEFIANCE, Ohio (Sept. 2) - The Bethany College men's soccer team cruised to an 8-0 win over Cincinnati-Clermont to open the 2017 season at the Defiance Purple & Gold Classic Saturday afternoon.

THE MATCHUP

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) and freshman Luis Artega (Pachuca, Mexico/Leonardo Bravo) each scored twice in the first 17 minutes of the game to establish a 4-0 lead for the Bison early.
  • Senior Adam Franco (Inglewood, Calif./Carter) tallied the team's next two goals to push the lead to 6-0. Franco scored in the 34th and 74th minutes.
  • A pair of goals in the final six minutes completed the 8-0 win for Bethany.

MATCH NOTES

  • Freshman goalkeeper Torben Grether (Rheinfelden, Germany/Georg-Buchner) made one save in his collegiate debut and earned the win.
  • Bethany out-shot UC-Clermont 26-to-2 for the match.
