Grether, Arteaga earn PAC weekly laurels

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 23) - After helping the Bethany College men's soccer team go 1-0-1 last week, freshman goalkeeper Torben Grether (Rheinfelden, Germany/Georg-Buchner) and freshman forward Raul Arteaga (Pachuca, Mexico/Instidudo Leonardo Bravo) were named as Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Players of the Week announced the league office.

Grether was named the league's Goalkeeper/Defensive Player of the Week, while Arteaga was tabbed the PAC Rookie of the Week.

Grether posted a 1-0-1 record in net last week for the Bison. He earned a five-save shutout in last Wednesday's 1-0 win at Westminster before logging a career-high 10 saves in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Thomas More. Wednesday's shutout was his third of the season.

Arteaga's goal in the 90th minute against Thomas More leveled the match for Bethany in Saturday's 1-1 draw with the Saints. He is tied for fourth in the league with six goals, while his 14 points tie him for seventh among PAC counterparts.

Arteaga is the second member of the team this season to earn PAC Rookie of the Week honors, joining fellow countryman Bernardo Vilchis (Mexico City, Mexico/Universidad del Valle) who earned the award two weeks ago. Vilchis assisted on Arteaga's goal versus Thomas More.

Grether, Arteaga and the rest of the Bison will continue their push towards securing a berth in the PAC Tournament this week with matches versus Washington & Jefferson and Saint Vincent to close our the regular-season. Bethany currently has eight points and sits one point behind both Waynesburg and Westminster for the fourth and final spot in the postseason tournament.
