Four Bison named to all-conference squads

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 9) - Bethany College men's soccer freshmen Raul Arteaga (Pachuca, Mexico/Leonardo Bravo) and Torben Grether (Rheinfelden, Germany/Georg-Buchner) led four selections to All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) teams announced the league office Monday morning.

Arteaga and Grether were both tabbed All-PAC Second Team, while sophomore Mikel Ubeda (Sopelana, Spain/Azkorri) and freshman Bernardo Vilchis (Mexico City, Mexico/Universidad del Valle) were each named All-PAC Honorable Mention.

The PAC also announced that senior Jose Saldivar (Moreno Vally, Calif./Valley View) was named to the all-sportsmanship team. 

Arteaga was named a second-team selection after he led the team and ranked in a tie for fifth in the PAC at the end of the regular-season with seven goals. He finished the year with a pair of game-winning goals, including a goal in the 81st-minute to help Bethany earn a 1-0 win over Waynesburg. Arteaga, who started 17 of 19 games, added a pair of assists to his final season total to amass a team leading 16 points, which ranked eighth in the league.

Grether was tabbed as an Second Team All-PAC goalkeeper after he finished the year 6-7-2 overall with three shutouts. His 1.10 goals against average (GAA), 65 saves and .802 save percentage all ranked among the top-four in the PAC this season.

Vilchis and Ubeda were each named honorable mention picks for the Bison after each played significant roles in the team's success. Vilchis appeared in all 19 games with 16 starts and finished the season in a tie for fifth on the team with seven points (two goals, three assists). Ubeda started 15 games for Bethany and tallied one goal and one assist, including a game-winning goal in the 80th-minute of a 1-0 win on the road at Westminster.

Saldivar was a mainstay on the Bison backline, starting 17 games and appearing in 18 total, while recording a pair of assists this season.
