BECKLEY, W.Va. (Jan. 9) – Former Bethany College men's soccer player and assistant coach James Regan will be inducted into the West Virginia Soccer Association (WVSA) Hall of Fame announced the organization Monday.

Regan is one of six selections who will be formally inducted at a ceremony on Saturday, March 3 at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place. Regan was a 2005 inductee into the Bethany College Athletic Hall of Fame and is also a member of the Wheeling Jesuit Athletic Hall of Fame.

Regan, who is the father of current Bethany College Men's Soccer Head Coach Sean Regan, was a four-year letterman on the Bison soccer team and was captain of the team in his senior year. He earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) honors twice and was part of four PAC championship teams.

Following his playing days, he continued to serve as an assistant coach at Bethany under Dr. John S. Cunningham for three years and was on the staff in 1982 when the Bison lost in the national championship game.

Following his graduation from Bethany in 1981 with distinction in Physical Education, Regan continued to coach soccer. He was named the head coach at Wheeling Jesuit University in 1983 and has compiled a 370-252-57 record during his 35-year tenure.

A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Regan served as Director of Coaching for the Wheeling Soccer Club for over 20 years and has won numerous WVSA State Cup championships. He also served many years in West Virginia's Olympic Development Program.

Regan will be joined by Nikki Izzo-Brown (Meritorious Member), Josh McKinney, Ed Hayes, Holly Reike and Sam Broh at the official induction ceremony in March.
