Softball: Bison swept by Yellow Jackets

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College softball team dropped two games to Waynesburg University Wednesday afternoon at Bison Field.

Game One Overview

Waynesburg 8, Bethany 0 (6 innings)

Waynesburg struck quick and early scoring five runs to open the game and added one run in the second to take a 6-0 lead over Bethany. The Yellow Jackets scoring slowed down as they scored one run in the fourth and one in the sixth to take game one. The Bison were held to three hits with two coming off the bat of Brooke Markland.

Waynesburg 5, Bethany 2

Bethany took the lead first in the second game. Destiny Goodnight reached base and Morgan Huey tripled to centerfield to score Goodnight. The Bison led 1-0 through the first two innings. Waynesburg knotted the game a 1-1 in the top of the third and took the lead in the fourth after a pinch hit three-run homerun by Demaske, In the sixth, the Yellow Jackets added one run after an error that allowed Baker to score from third.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh the Bison looked to battle back. Destiny Goodnight doubled to left center and advanced to third on a pass ball. Brooke Markland singled to score Goodnight, cutting the deficit to three. Mary Marshall singled bringing the tying run to the plate with Morgan Huey. The Yellow Jackets were able to get out of the jam and hold onto the win.
