Softball: Bison earn sweep on Senior Day

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College hosted Franciscan University in a PAC doubleheader on Bison Field, Thursday Afternoon. The Bison celebrated senior day, honoring Morgan Huey before game one. The Bison swept the Barons, 8-0 (5 inn.) and 6-2.    

Game One Overview

Bethany 8, Franciscan 0

Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, the Bison exploded for eight runs on four hits and one error. Destiny Goodnight led the inning off with a walk followed by  Brooke Markland and Emma Sorenson walks. With bases loaded, Miriam Peterson doubled to drive in Goodnight and Markland. Sorenson would later score on a pass ball giving the Bison a 3-0 lead. Ally McClelland later reached on an error allowing Peterson to score.

The Bison kept the inning going after Katelyn Ziems singled to drive in McClelland. Trista Morris singled to right field, allowing Ziems to score. Alexis Holden crossed the plate on a passed ball. Destiny Goodnight stole home as the eighth run of the inning.

Holding an 8-0 lead, the Bison were able to hold off the Barons to take game one.

Josie Wise earned her fourth win of the season pitching 5.0 innings with one hit and striking out ten.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 6, Franciscan 2

The Bison opened game two scoring the first five runs of the game. They scored four runs in the first inning led by Morgan Huey who reached on an error, allowing Destiny Goodnight to score. Huey would later score on a throwing error. Felicity Eli drove in Ally McClelland to give the Bison a 4-0 lead. In the third, McClelland reached on an old-fashion squeeze play scoring Huey.

The Barons crossed the play in the bottom of the fourth, for their first run of the day. The Bison added one more run in the bottom half of the inning after Katelyn Ziems singled driving in Brooke Markland.

Franciscan added one more run in the sixth but Bethany was able to hold off the Barons for a 6-2 win.

Shelby Barnett earned her fourth win of the season pitching 4.0 innings with two strikeouts and two hits. Jersie Knight pitched 3.0 innings with one hit and three strikeouts.
