Softball: Bison split with Cougars

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College and Chatham University took on a PAC conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars won game one 9-5, and the Bison got their revenge in game two as they beat the Cougars 14-4 in five innings.  

Game One Overview

Chatham 9, Bethany 5

After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars took a 4-0 lead over the Bison. The Green and White answered in the bottom half of the inning after Trista Morris reached on an error that allowed Elizabeth Shubert to score. In the fifth, the Bison added one more run to cut the deficit to two. The Cougars' bats came alive as they scored five runs to take a 9-2 lead. Heading into their final at bats, the Bison looked to try and comeback. Brooke Markland led off drawing a walk followed by a Mary Marshall single. Morgan Huey drove in Markland on an RBI fielder's choice. A few batters later, Elizabeth Shubert singled to score Huey. Ally McClelland would score on a passed ball, but the Bison comeback fell short, 9-5.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 14, Chatham 4  

The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead to start game two. Destiny Goodnight led the Bison off with a single. Morgan Huey doubled to drive in Goodnight. Huey would later score on a wild pitch. Ally McClelland doubled to right field driving in Miriam Peterson and Trista Morris. Emma Sorenson singled to drive in McClelland.

After leading 5-1, the Bison added one run in the bottom of the second after Morris singled to score Marshall. The third inning saw the Bison adding on four more runs to their lead. The Cougars would score two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth to cut the deficit. The Bison were able to respond, scoring four runs to take game two, 14-4 in five innings.
