Softball: Bison sweep Saturday doubleheader against Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College used timely hitting as the Bison swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Thiel College on Saturday at Softball Field at Tomcat Park. Bethany took the first game, 7-4 and completed the sweep with a 7-3 win in the second contest.

Game One Overview

After a pair of Tomcat errors, Destiny Goodnight and Brooke Markland scored to give the Bison 2-0 lead in the first. The Bison lead didn't last long as the Tomcats knotted the game at two in the bottom half of the opening inning.

Bethany regained the lead in the third after capitalizing on a Tomcat error that scored Markland and Mary Marshall. The Tomcats would once again deadlock the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Heading into the final inning of play in a tied ballgame, the Bison looked to take the lead and win their first PAC game since Mar. 30 against Grove City. Markland led the inning off with a double to left field followed by a Marshall single to the shortstop. Morgan Huey capitalized on the opportunity to score two when she hit a double to left center driving in the Bison runners. A few batters later, the Bison would add to their lead as Elizabeth Shubert drove in Huey. The Bison led 7-4 and took game one after retiring the Tomcats in order

Game Two Overview

Bethany 7, Thiel 3

Bethany began game two the same way they started game one score the first runs of the game. Mary Marshall singled to drive in Destiny Goodnight. A few batters later, Elizabeth Shubert drove in Marshall. Ally McClelland put down a bunt that turned into a single to score Morgan Huey giving the Bison a 3-0 lead after their first at bats.

The Tomcats plated one run in the bottom half of the first after a Julianna Sloan homerun to right center. After being held scoreless for the next two innings, the Bison scored three runs in the fourth. Goodnight would score off a Brooke Markland double and would later score on an error in Morgan Huey's at bat. McClelland singled to the shortstop driving in Huey.

In the sixth, the Bison added one more run after Huey scored off a Tomcat error. The Tomcats would attempt to claw back in the seventh inning scoring two runs but the Bison held the Tomcats off to take game two 7-3.
