Softball: Bison Cruise in win over Foresters; Fall to Lions in Day Two Competition

Clermont, Fl. – The Bethany College softball team split on day two in the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Bison faced Lake Forest and Penn State-Brandywine Tuesday afternoon.

Game One Overview

Bethany7, Lake Forest 0

The Bison crossed the plate first after Angela Brandel drove in Mary Marshall in the second inning. In the third, the Bison added another run after Morgan Huey singled scoring Kathleen Fuchs. Bethany led 2-0 heading into the fourth inning. The Green and White added four runs in the fourth with RBIs coming from Angela Brandel, Ally McClelland, Destiny Goodnight and Kathleen Fuchs. Josie Wise pitched a complete game shut-out. She gave up two hits and fanned six. Senior Jen Oberthur collected her 100th career hit against the Foresters. 

Game Two Overview

Penn State-Brandywine 9, Bethany 5

Both teams battled back and forth with the Lions coming out on top, 9-5. Brandywine scored first in the first inning, but the Bison knotted the game at 1-1 after Jennifer Oberthur drove in Destiny Goodnight on a sacrifice fly. In the third, Oberthur knotted the game at 2-2 after driving in Fuchs on another sacrifice fly. The Lions took a two run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Bethany's Oberthur doubled scoring Kathleen Fuchs and Lexie Vetter. The Lions took a one run lead in the sixth and pulled ahead 9-4 in the seventh inning. The Bison attempted to comeback in the seventh scoring one run on a Morgan Huey single that scored Goodnight, but the Bison fell short.

Lake Forest – 3-1

Penn State-Brandywine – 5-1

Bethany returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 10. The Bison will face Wheaton and Heidelberg at 3 pm and 5:30 pm.
