Softball: Wise Ties Single-Season Strikeout Record in Split with Grove City

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College softball team closed out the PAC regular-season with a split with the Grove City Wolverines.

Game One Overview

Bethany 3, Grove City 2

Sophomore pitcher Josie Wise gave up one hit in seven innings while fanning 13 batters. The Bison took an early lead after a Lexie Vetter double that scored Destiny Goodnight. In the second inning the Bison added another run off of a Kathleen Fuchs triple that scored Jennica Levermann. In the sixth inning, the Wolverines knotted the game at 2-2 after a two-run homerun. The game wasn't tied for long. The Bison regained the lead with Haley Eyler doubling to score Jennifer Oberthur.

Game Two Overview

Wolverines 8, Bethany 4

The Wolverines jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Bison slowly chipped away in the second with Haley Eyler doubling to center to score Jennifer Oberthur. Batters later, the Bison capitalized on a first and third situation. Paige Allen stole second allowing Haley Eyler to score on the throw. Bison trailed 4-2 after two innings. In the third and fifth innings, the Wolverines tacked on a few more runs to extend their lead, 8-2. The Bison chipped away in the fifth with Destiny Goodnight scoring on a Lexie Vetter double and in the sixth inning, with an Ally McClelland double to score Jennifer Oberthur. The Wolverines were able to hold on and take game two.

Up Next:

Bethany earned the third seed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament. They will face No. 2 seed Waynesburg University on Thursday, May 5 at 10 am. The tournament is held at No. 1 seed Westminster College.
