Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College softball team hosted the Thiel College Tomcats in a PAC doubleheader at Bison Field Saturday afternoon. The Bison honored their three seniors, Paige Allen, Kathleen Fuchs and Jennifer Oberthur prior to the doubleheader.
Game One Overview
Bethany 2, Thiel 0
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Angela Brandel drove in Jen Oberthur to take a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, Paige Allen singled to drive in Morgan Huey. The Bison held the Tomcats scoreless to complete the shutout.
Josie Wise earned her 13th win of the season pitching a complete game shutout. She fanned six batters and gave up two hits.
Game Two Overview
Bethany 8, Thiel 5
Jen Oberthur singled through the left side to score Destiny Goodnight giving the Bison a 1-0 lead in the first. The Tomcats knotted the game at 1-1 in the second inning. In the third, Oberthur singled to drive in Goodnight regaining the Bison lead. Haley Eyler drove in Felicity Eli extending the Bison lead to 3-1.
In the fourth inning the Bison tacked on four runs. Goodnight hit a two-run homerun to left field. Angela Brandel singled to drive in two runs for the Bison. Paige Allen singled to left center to drive in Eyler.
The Tomcats did not go down without a fight. They scored four runs to battle back in the game but the Bison were able to settle in and hold the Tomcats scoreless in the seventh inning.
Bison Leaders
- Destiny Goodnight went 1-for-4 with three runs scored and 2 RBIs in game two.
- Jennifer Oberthur went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs in game two.
- Angela Brandel went 1-for-3 with one walk and two RBIs in game two.
- Paige Allen and Haley Eyler both had an RBI in game two.
- Allen and Brandel led the Bison in game two both going 2-for-3 with one RBI apiece.
