Waynesburg, Pa. – The Bethany College softball team split with Waynesburg University in a PAC doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
Game One Overview
Bethany 2, Waynesburg 1
After a scoreless first inning, the Bison scored first in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Mary Marshall stole third and scored on an error. In the fourth inning the Bison added one more run to extend the lead 2-0. Angela Brandel scored after a Waynesburg error. The Yellow Jackets scored off of a homerun but the Bison were able to escape with the victory.
Josie Wise earned her eighth win of the season, pitching 7.0 innings with five strikeouts. Ally McClelland led the Bison with two hits.
Game Two Overview
Waynesburg 11, Bethany 4
The Yellow Jackets used an 11 run third inning to defeat the Bison in game two. The Bison scored first in the first inning. Lexie Vetter doubled to drive in Kathleen Fuchs. In the second inning, Mary Marshall scored on an error to give Bethany a 2-0 lead after two. The third inning was all the Yellow Jackets. They scored 11 runs on 11 hits and two errors. The Bison added two runs in the fourth but could not overcome the large deficit.
Bison Leaders
- Lexie Vetter, Mary Marshall and Angela Brandel all had RBIs for the Bison.
- Mary Marshall scored two runs on the day for the Bison and had three stolen bases.
