Softball: Bison Offense Explodes in Sweep over Lions

McKeesport, Pa. – The Bethany College Softball offense exploded in the sweep over Penn State-Greater Allegheny Thursday afternoon. The Bison combined for 33 runs and 36 hits in 15-2 and 18-3 victories.

Game One Overview

Bethany 15, PSU-Greater Allegheny 2 (5 Inn.)

Bethany crossed the plate three times in the first inning to build an early 3-0 lead. Freshman Lexie Vetter singled to right driving in two of the three Bison runs. The Lions scored in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring two runs. However, the Bison would hold the Lions to just two runs and two hits for the remainder of the game.

The Bison scored seven runs in the second to extend their lead 10-2, while adding a run in the third and fourth inning to take a 12-2 lead. In the fifth, the Bison earned three runs to seal the game in five innings.

Sophomore Josie Wise pitched all five innings to earn her fourth victory of the season. She fanned 12 batters and gave up two hits.

Angela Brandel, Haley Eyler and Destiny Goodnight led the Bison with three RBIs apiece.

Brandel and Goodnight both tripled. Brandel also led the Bison with two doubles. Goodnight hit her first homerun of the season in the second inning.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 18, PSU-Greater Allegheny 3

Bethany continued the strong offensive presence in the second game. The Bison took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jen Oberthur drove in the first run of the game with Kathleen Fuchs crossing home. Haley Eyler doubled to drive in Oberthur. Lexie Vetter singled allowing Eyler to score.

The Bison added one run in the second and exploded for 11 runs in the third inning. The Lions earned two runs in the fourth inning after a two-run Homerun. The Bison added three in the fifth to keep their large lead and won 18-3.

Jennica Levermann earned her second win of the season, pitching two innings and striking out one. Jersie Knight and Lexie Vetter both earned innings on the mound. Knight went two innings, giving up one hit, two runs and struck out one. Vetter went one inning giving up one hit, one run and struck out one.

Destiny Goodnight kept the hot bat alive, driving in four RBIs, with two triples.

Lexie Vetter drove in three runs, while Jennifer Oberthur, Kathleen Fuchs and Felicity Eli drove in two runs apiece. Alexis Holden, Ally McClelland, Morgan Huey and Paige Allen all drove in one run.
