Softball: Bethany Swept at Home by John Carroll

Bethany, W.Va. – After ten days off due to weather postponements the Bethany College softball team faced John Carroll University in a non-conference doubleheader.

Game One Overview

John Carroll 4, Bethany 3

In the bottom of the third, Angela Brandel doubled to left field driving in Kathleen Fuchs and Jennifer Oberthur to take a 2-0 lead. The next batter, Morgan Huey singled to drive in Destiny Goodnight. The Bison led 3-0 after three innings.

The Blue Streaks took advantage of a pair of Bison errors to knot the game at 3-3. Moments later, the Blue Streaks took a one run lead and held the Bison scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Game Two Overview

John Carroll 11, Bethany 3 (5 innings)

John Carroll continued momentum into game two. The Blue Streaks scored three runs in the second inning and added four runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Angela Brandel walked, allowing Kathleen Fuchs to score. Alley McClelland singled up the middle to drive in two Bison runs, Mary Marshall and Emma Sorensen to cut the Blue Streak lead to four. John Carroll answered in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs to take an 11-3 lead.

Bethany will open up PAC conference play on Saturday April 2 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Bison will face Chatham with the first pitch at 1 pm.
