Softball: Bison Earn Sweep over Presidents

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College Bison swept the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents in a PAC doubleheader Friday afternoon.

Game One Overview

Bethany 5, W&J 1

Destiny Goodnight doubled to left to score Haley Eyler and Paige Allen. Morgan Huey drove in Goodnight and moments later Jen Oberthur doubled to score Huey and Lexie Vetter. The Bison led 5-0 after three innings of play. The Presidents scored one run in the fifth but wasn't enough to capture the win.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 4, W&J 3 (10 inn.)

The Bison scored first after Morgan Huey singled to center to drive in Lexie Vetter in the first inning. The Presidents knotted the game at 1-1 and took a 2-1 lead in the second inning. In the sixth inning, the  Bison had bases loaded when Haley Eyler reached on a fielder's choice with Jennifer Oberthur scoring before the Presidents' tag.


The Bison and Presidents battled back and forth going into extra innings. The Presidents capitalized with the International tiebreaker in the top of the tenth. The Bison had runners in scoring position for Paige Allen. Allen singled to centerfield scoring the tying run and go ahead run to seal the Bison victory.  

Bison Leaders

  • Josie Wise pitched 7.0 innings in game one with four hits, one run (zero earned) and five strikeouts. She pitched 8.0 innings in game two and finished with 8 strikeouts.
  • Destiny Goodnight went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored in game one.
  • Jennifer Oberthur drove in two runs in game one.
  • Paige Allen led the Bison with two RBIs.

Bethany College Bison – 12-11, 5-3

Washington & Jefferson Presidents – 5-8, 1-4

Bethany returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to Geneva College for a PAC Doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
