Softball: Wise Sets Single Season Strikeout Record; Bison Conclude Season at PAC Tournament

New Wilmington, Pa. – No. 3 Bethany College faced No. 2 Waynesburg University in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament Thursday morning.

Game One Overview

Waynesburg 3, Bethany 2

It was a pitcher's duel through five innings. Sophomore Josie Wise set the single-season strikeout record in the bottom of the first inning. She fanned six batters in game one. The Yellow Jackets' Ella Brookeman reached on a leadoff triple to right field in the sixth inning. With runners on first and third, Brookeman scored on a throwing error for the first run of the ballgame. The Yellow Jackets added two more runs off of a two-run homerun to left field.

Down to their last at bats, with runners on first and second and one out, Paige Allen hit a double to center field to score Angela Brandel and Haley Eyler to bring the Bison within one run. The Yellow Jackets earned the third out on a line drive to first base to move ahead to the 4 pm game against Westminster College. 

Game Two Overview

Saint Vincent 3, Bethany 2 (8 innings)

It was a pitcher's duel in game two for the Bison and Bearcats. Both teams were held scoreless through eight innings. The Bison found themselves in a trailing situation in the eighth after a Bearcat bases clearing double from Alexandra Dillner. The Bison did not give up in the bottom of the eighth. Morgan Huey lead off the inning with a single followed by Haley Eyler with a RBI single to center field. Josie Wise had a sacrifice fly out to right field to score Haley Eyler. The Bearcats regained composure and struck out the Bison to move on in the PAC Tournament.

Sophomore Josie Wise finished the season with 183 strikeouts which sets the single-season strikeout record. She currently sits fifth on Bethany's career strikeout list with 299.
