Baseball: Bison Rebound Back with Win Over Tomcats

Greenville, Pa. – The Bethany College baseball team traveled north to take on the Thiel College Tomcats Tuesday afternoon.

Game Overview

Bethany 8, Thiel 3

Thiel crossed the plate first in the second inning taking a 1-0 lead. The Tomcats held the Bison hitless until the fourth inning. Michael Whiteherse hit a sacrifice fly to score Stef Blackstone to deadlock the game at 1-1.

The Tomcats regained the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth and held the Bison scoreless until the seventh inning. In the seventh, the Bison scored four runs to take back the lead, 4-3. Cory Newman hit a sacrifice fly to score Blackstone. Kevin Pollock singled to score Whiteherse and Dezmond Franklin giving Bison the lead.

In the eighth, the Bison continued to pour on runs, adding four runs to take an 8-3 lead. Schaub scored on a wild pitch then Hubert singled to score Blackstone. Newman doubled to score two more Bison runs.

Bison Leaders

  • Cory Newman led the Bison with three RBIs.
  • Stefan Blackstone led the Bison with three runs scored. He had one stolen base and two hits and one walk.
  • Kevin Pollock drove in two runs.
  • Michael Whiteherse drove in one run and scored once. He had two stolen bases.
  • Mark Lavezza pitched a complete game to earn his fifth win of the season. He had seven strikeouts.
