WBB: Late Three Spoils Comeback

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Bethany College women's basketball team suffered a tough loss Saturday, falling to Grove City, 64-62, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

Bethany went on an 11-3 run to claim the late fourth quarter lead and had possession with 30 seconds remaining. However, a turnover and subsequent transition three-pointer gave the host Wolverines a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Leading by three, Grove City elected to foul – sending graduate Bella Skobel to the line for a pair. She knocked down both to pull the Bison to within one. After GCC split a pair of free throws to leave the door open, but the last second three-pointer was missed.

The late game dramatics didn't seem to be necessary after Bethany ended the first quarter on an 11-3 run to take an 11-point lead. But the Wolverines gradually chipped away, trailing by two at halftime, and then claimed the lead in the third quarter.

Junior Kaedlee Potter finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Skobel tallied 12 points. Senior Ashleigh Wheeler finished with a team-high six assists to go along with nine points and eight rebounds.

Bethany (12-11 overall, 9-9 PAC) travels to Saint Vincent 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Bearcats claimed the first meeting, 86-79, on January 8.
