Women's Basketball: Presidents Edge Bison

Washington, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team fell to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents 59-50 in a PAC contest inside Salvitti Family Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

GAME FLOW

  • After a scoreless two and half minutes to begin the game, the Presidents struck first with a shot from behind the arc.
  • On the next Bison possession, freshman Lindsey Garrison hits a three knot the game at 3-3.
  • The Bison trailed 11-9 after the first stanza.
  • In the second quarter the Bison and Presidents battled with the Green and White gaining momentum to take the lead away from the Presidents.
  • Freshman Ashleigh Wheeler hit shot from behind the arc to give the Bison a 19-18 lead.
  • With the game knotted at 21-21, Makenzee Mason hits an old-fashioned three point play to give the Bison a 24-21 lead with 1:32 left in the second stanza.
  • Moments later, Mason powers in another three-point play to give Bethany a 27-21 lead.
  • The Bison took a six point lead into halftime.
  • Mason scores the first bucket in the second half. Moments later, the Bison force a 10-second call leading to an Alexis Heap bucket to give the Bison a 31-21 lead.
  • W&J chipped away at Bethany's lead scoring nine points to take a 31-30 lead.
  • Taylor Stinnett ended the W&J run to give the Bison a three-point lead.
  • Moments later, W&J knotted the game at 33-33 and took the lead with 1:25 to go in the third.
  • A Wheeler three deadlocks the game at 35-35, but the Presidents we able to regain a 37-35 lead to end the quarter.
  • The Presidents continued with the momentum in the fourth stanza hitting back-to-back threes to take an eight point lead, 43-35.
  • Senior Courtney Walker pulled the Bison within five (47-42) with a short jumper in the paint.
  • Another Walker jumper pulled the Bison within three with 4:06 to go in the final stanza.
  • Wheeler hit a three to knot the game at 47-47 with three minutes to go, but the Presidents climbed out and pulled ahead by five.
  • With 2:10 to go, Wheeler hit another shot from downtown to pull the Bison within two, 52-50.
  • With under forty seconds to go, the Presidents nailed a dagger three with seconds left on the shot clock.
  • The Presidents' three sealed the victory over the Bison.
