Women's Basketball: Cold Shooting Slows Down Bison in Loss to Bearcats

Latrobe, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team dropped their third straight game for the first time this season. The Bison fell 73-55 to the Saint Vincent Bearcats inside the Robert S. Carey Student Center. 

GAME FLOW

  • Costly unforced turnovers gave the Bearcats the advantage in the first quarter, with the Bison trailing 23-14 after one.
  • The Bison took a 6-0 run to come within 23-20 to start the second quarter.
  • The Bearcats answered back with their own spurt, pulling ahead 27-20. Both teams went through a minor drought in much of the second quarter.
  • Kelsie Meintel broke the Bearcats spurt knocking in a pair of free throws, cutting the lead to 27-22.
  • Bella Skobel sank a bucket cutting the Bearcat lead to 29-27.
  • The final minute of the second quarter saw each opponent answering each other's' baskets.
  • Saint Vincent took a 34-31 lead heading into the break.
  • The Bearcats extended their lead to seven to start the third.
  • Lindsey Garrison went coast-to-coast after a steal to cut the Bearcat lead to 38-36 in the third.
  • Saint Vincent extended their lead up to 45-37, before Ashleigh Wheeler hit a layup to cut the lead to six.
  • The Bearcats took their largest lead of the game heading into the final stanza and continued to pull away, leading by as many as 18 points.
  • The Bison had opportunities to cut the Bearcat lead but couldn't find the bottom of the basket; Bethany shot a cold 28.6 percent (16-for-56) from the field and 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from behind the arc. The three-made threes are the fewest made three's this season by the Bison.

  • Freshman Lindsey Garrison currently has 63 made three-pointers this season. She needs one three-pointer to tie the single-season three point record set by Hayley Holenka (2015-16).
