Women's Basketball: Bison Battle Titans in 62-56 Loss

New Wilmington, Pa. – After 16 days off, the Bethany College Women's basketball team returned to action against PAC opponent Westminster College Saturday afternoon. The Bison fell to the Titans, 62-56.  

GAME FLOW

  • Makenzee Mason hit a three off of a Alexis Heap steal to knot the game at 3-3.
  • Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first quarter. Mason gave Bethany a 6-4 lead after an old fashion three point play.
  • Westminster battled back and knotted the game at 8-8. Moments later, Samariah Murry put the Bison ahead 10-8 at the 4:50 mark in the first quarter.
  • Bethany held a 14-12 lead after the first stanza.
  • Westminster deadlocked the game at 14-14 to start the second quarter. After Back-to-back three's from Makenzee Mason and Lindsey Garrison, the Bison took a 22-16 lead with 6:11 left in the second stanza.
  • Westminster continued to battle and tied the game at 26-26 with 2:27 to go in the half.
  • Titans used a 10-0 of run to regain a 28-26 lead into the break.
  • Alexis Heap hit a short jumper to break the Titans' 14-0 run.
  • Mason knotted the game at 32-32 halfway through the third stanza.
  • Senior Courtney Walker drained a three as time expired to pull the Bison within one, 41-40 heading into the fourth quarter. 
  • Walker drained a three from downtown to start the fourth quarter, to give the Bison a 43-42 lead.
  • Westminster regained the lead the next possession taking a 44-42 lead. Alexis Heap drained a hook shot to give the Bison a 51-48 lead. The Titans took back the lead scoring the next eight points to lead 56-51.
  • With the Bison battling, Makenzee Mason pulled the Bison within three, 56-53.
  • Trailing late in the fourth, Mason knocked in a pair of free-throws to bring the Bison within five. On the next Titan possession, Mason picked off a throw and drew a Titan foul, to head to the charity stripe. The sophomore guard, hit 1-of-2 to bring the Bison within four with 10.8 seconds to go in the game.
  • The Titans maintained the lead hitting a pair of free throws to seal the victory over the Bison.
