Women's Basketball: Bethany's Late Comeback Falls Short to Geneva

Beaver Falls, Pa. – After trailing by as many as 21 points, the Bethany College women's basketball team comeback fell short to the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes. The Golden Tornadoes outlasted the Bison, 80-75 inside Metheny Fieldhouse Tuesday evening.   

GAME FLOW

  • Geneva took advantage of Bethany's turnovers and cold shooting to take an 11-0 lead to begin the game.
  • Sophomore Makenzee Mason broke the Golden Tornado run hitting 1-of-2 from the charity stripe with 5:42 to go in the first. 
  • Kelsie Meintel gave Bethany their first field-goal of the game at the 4:44 mark in the first quarter.
  • Geneva built a commanding lead, leading 26-11 after one quarter of play.
  • The Golden Tornadoes continued their hot shooting streak into the second quarter building their lead up to 21 points with 7:34 to go in the second quarter.
  • The Bison chipped away at the lead outscoring the Golden Tornadoes 23-9 heading into halftime trailing 45-38.
  • Geneva took a nine point lead after scoring the first bucket of the third quarter.
  • Freshman Ashleigh Wheeler hit an old-fashion three point play to cut the Golden Tornado lead to seven with 8:24 to go in the third stanza.
  • Geneva led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter.
  • Freshman Lindsey Garrison cut the Geneva lead to 61-54 with under a minute to go.
  • Geneva led 65-54 after three.
  • Sophomore Makenzee Mason scored the first bucket in the fourth for the Bison to cut the Geneva lead to 65-56.  Buckets from downtown by Garrison and Wheeler put the Bison within three, 65-62.
  • The Bison started the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run. Garrison hit a pair of free throws to bring the Bison within one with 6:46 to go in the game. The Golden Tornadoes answered with a three moments later and pulled back ahead four, 70-66.
  • With four minutes left in the game, the Bison went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to two, 75-73 after Alexis Heap made a driving layup with 2:16 to go.
  • After Geneva took a three point lead, Heap brought the Bison within one, 76-75 with 1:22 to go in the game. Geneva finished the game on a 5-0 run to seal the victory.
