Women's Basketball: Bison Rally Falls Short to Tartans

Marietta, Ohio – The Bethany College women's basketball team faced the Carnegie Mellon Tartans in the opening game of the 36th Annual Jim Meagle Holiday Classic held by Marietta College. The Tartans clipped the Bison 65-58.

GAME FLOW

  • Lindsey Garrison drained a three to put the Bison ahead 3-0 to kick start the game.
  • After a scoreless Bison five minutes, Alexis Heap scored with 4:30 to go in the first to cut the Tartan lead to 8-5.
  • Carnegie Mellon led 18-11 after the first stanza.
  • With baskets from Mason and Heap the Bison cut the lead to 23-15, but the Tartans manufactured the lead back to double digits, 27-17.
  • A pair of free throws from Garrison cut the Tartan lead to six with five minutes to go in the half, 27-21.
  • Freshman Ashleigh Wheeler cut the lead to five but Carnegie Mellon answered back to gain momentum and built the lead back up to ten.
  • With three seconds left in the half, Kelsie Meintel hit an old fashion three point play to bring the Bison within six before the break.
  • Bethany trailed 37-31 at the half.
  • Garrison brought the Bison within four for the first Bison basket of the second half.
  • A Wheeler three scratched the lead to one, 39-38.
  • Momentum shifted in the Bison's favor after Makenzee Mason got an old-fashion three point play to knot the game at 43-43 with under 4:30 to go in the third stanza.
  • Moments later, Garrison laid one in to give the Bison their first lead since leading 3-0 in the first quarter.
  • Bethany led 49-48 after the third stanza.
  • Carnegie Mellon regained the lead after back-to-back baskets to give the Tartans a 52-49 lead.
  • Alexis Heap scored the Bison's first bucket in the fourth to bring the Bison with one, 52-51.
  • Carnegie Mellon took a seven point lead with five minutes to go in the final stanza.
  • The Bison pulled within three, 61-58 after Courtney Walker hit a pair from the charity stripe.
  • The Tartans scored a few more times to hold the Bison off.
