Women's Basketball: Bison Handed First Loss at Home by Cougars

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball team were handed a 55-46 loss inside Hummel Field House Monday evening against the Chatham University Cougars.

GAME FLOW

  • The first half started slow for both teams with turnovers and missed opportunities.
  • Bethany took at 12-9 lead after the first stanza led by guard duo Makenzee Mason and Lindsey Garrison combined for eight of Bethany's 12 points in the first quarter.
  • Chatham used momentum to pull ahead of the Bison taking a 24-21 lead into halftime.
  • To begin the third quarter, the Cougars pulled ahead 30-21 with 6:36 to go. Moments later they extended their lead to 34-21, holding the Bison scoreless until an Ashleigh Wheeler free-throw at the 4:27 mark in the third.
  • The Bison battled back to cut the Cougar lead to 36-34 after back-to-back three's from freshman Lindsey Garrison with 0:53 seconds to go in the third stanza.
  • Senior Taylor Stinnett knotted the game at 36-36 after hitting a pair of free-throws.
  • The Cougars struck first in the final quarter of play, with the lead see-sawing back and forth between the teams. Bethany and Chatham were tied 44-44 with 6:30 to go in the game before Chatham took the lead for good.
  • The Bison's last field-goal on the night would come from Alexis Heap who pulled the Bison within three with a layup but the Cougars struck back hitting a three with 2:08 to go and held on for the victory.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Freshman Lindsey Garrison led the Bison with 18 points shooting 6-for-12 from the field and 5-for-9 from behind the arc. She pulled in two rebounds and had one assist.
  • Sophomore Makenzee Mason added 12 points while pulling in seven boards and had three assists.
  • Senior Taylor Stinnett pulled in a team high eight rebounds.

IN THE GAME NOTES

  • Freshman Lindsey Garrison currently has 62 made three-pointers this season. She needs two three-pointers to tie the single-season three point record set by Hayley Holenka (2015-16).
