Women's Basketball: Bison outlast Gators

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College women's basketball earned a 79-69 PAC road victory against Allegheny College Tuesday evening.

GAME FLOW

  • Both teams went back and forth in the opening minutes. Ashleigh Wheeler hit a jumper to give the Bison an 8-7 lead. Bethany would hold the lead and go on a 14-7 run to give the Bison a 20-14 lead after one quarter of play.
  • Allegheny opened the quarter with a three. The Bison went on a 6-0 run taking a 26-19 lead halfway through the second quarter. Makenzee Mason added to the Bison lead, 31-22 with a layup. Allegheny ended the half on a 7-0 run cutting the deficit, 31-29.
  • The Bison started the second half on a 6-2 run, beginning with a jumper from freshman Kate Botti, followed by back-to-back layups by Lindsey Garrison. The Bison extended their lead to double-digits after another Garrison layup.
  • Bethany led 47-40 after three quarters.
  • Taylor Dusenberry opened the fourth quarter with a three to give Bethany a double-digit lead. After back-to-back baskets by Garrison, Bethany led 58-44 with under six minutes to go in the game. Allegheny chipped away at the lead but Bethany was able to maintain the solid lead after capitalizing on their foul shots in the final minutes of the game.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Lindsey Garrison led the Bison with 25 points, two steals and two assists. She shot 58.8 percent from the field (10-for-17).
  • Ashleigh Wheeler added 20 points with six assists and six steals. She shot 14-for-16 from the foul line.
  • Sophie Morey had a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Kate Botti added eight points and five rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Bethany went 22-for-29 from the charity stripe.
  • Allegheny out rebounded Bethany, 44-35. The Gators had 20 offensive rebounds.
  • The Gators had seven blocks.
