Women's Basketball: Presidents use strong second half to cruise past Bison

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball team dropped their fifth straight PAC matchup after Washington & Jefferson College used a strong second half to defeat the Bison, 78-58 inside Hummel Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. Both teams wore t-shirts to help raise awareness against Sexual Assault. Bethany's Makenzee Mason led the charge to raise awareness and all proceeds raised in today's game would be donated to West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services.

GAME FLOW/HIGHLIGHTS

  • Makenzee Mason hit the first three of the game to lift the lid for the Bison.
  • It was a back-and-forth affair in the first stanza with the Bison taking a 17-16 lead.
  • Bethany opened the second quarter with Ashleigh Wheeler scoring the first five points of the quarter. The Bison led by as many as six with 5:29 to go. The Presidents used an 8-2 run to knot the game at 29-29 and ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to take the lead heading into the halftime break.
  • The Bison trailed 34-29 after two quarters.
  • Washington & Jefferson continued the momentum they gained in the second quarter into the second half, outscoring Bethany, 44-29. The Presidents' lead swelled to double-digits on two separate occasions and was maintained after an 11-0 run in the tail end of the third stanza.
  • The Bison were able to cut deficit to single digits as time expired, 53-44, when Ashleigh Wheeler drilled a three.
  • After Lindsey Garrison hit a three in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, the Presidents would go on a 15-0 run to swell the lead to 24. Bella Skobel broke the W&J run with a layup. The Bison would end up falling by 20.

  • W&J went 10-of-23 from behind the arc, while Bethany shot a cold 7-of-30.
  • The Presidents edged the Bison on the boards, 40-30.
  • Bethany had 15 turnovers resulting in 20 W&J points.
