Women's Basketball: Bison edged by Titans

BETHANY, W.Va – The Bethany College women's basketball team and Westminster College battled in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup Saturday afternoon. The Titans pulled off a 54-50 victory over the Bison.

GAME FLOW/HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bison held the lead for the entire first stanza. They led by as many as seven points with Ashleigh Wheeler leading the scoring with six points. Bethany led 18-14 heading into the second quarter.
  • Bethany continued to hold the momentum in the second stanza. The Bison would hold the Titans to just two field-goals, a 16.7% from the field. The Titans would score five points from the charity stripe. Bethany was held to four field-goals with three points coming from the foul line.
  • The Bison led 30-23 at the half.
  • Momentum stayed with the Bison for the opening minutes of the second half. Makenzee Mason's layup gave the Bison an 11 point lead. The Titans began to slowly chip away at the deficit and went on a 10-0 run to take a one point lead with 2:31 to go in the third. The Bison were able to regain the lead after Ashleigh Wheeler hit a layup and Kate Botti added a layup on the next possession. The Bison ended the quarter on an 8-3 run.
  • Bethany led 43-39 heading into the final quarter of play.
  • The Bison and Titans both exchanged points in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. The Titans chipped away and cut the lead to two points at the halfway mark of the quarter. With 4:05 left, the Bison lead was one and the Titans tied the game at 50-50. The Bison were unable to score in the final two minutes of the game while the Titans' hit a layup and both foul shots to seal the comeback victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Bethany shot a season low 9.1% from behind the arc. The Bison went 2-for-22 from three.
  • The Titans shot 33.3% from the field while holding the Bison to 29.8%.
  • Both teams reached the charity stripe a decent amount yesterday. The Titans went 15-for-18 while the Bison went 14-for-20.
  • Bethany held the slight advantage on the boards, 38-30.
