Women's Basketball: Bison snap losing streak with win over Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team snapped their five game losing streak in a down to the wire matchup against Grove City College Saturday afternoon. The Bison defeated the Wolverines, 69-67.  

GAME FLOW/HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lindsey Garrison hit the first three of the game to lift the lid for the Bison. After being tied at 10-10, the Bison closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 19-10 lead into the second stanza.
  • The Bison built their lead to double-digits with a Bella Skobel jumper to open the second quarter. Grove City went on a 10-2 run to cut the Bethany lead to three, 23-20. Bethany strung together a run of their own, 12-3 to grow their lead back to double-digits.
  • Bethany led 40-27 at the half.
  • Grove City opened the second half on an 11-3 run. The Bison snapped the run with a Lindsey Garrison three and built their lead back to ten after Makenzee Mason hit a three. The Wolverines strung together a 9-1 run to cut the deficit, 51-49.
  • The Bison led 52-49 to end the third stanza.
  • Makenzee Mason and Lindsey Garrison both drilled threes to extend the Bison lead to nine to start the fourth quarter. Grove City would use a small run to cut the Bison lead to three, 58-55. The final five minutes would be a back-and-forth battle with each team exchanging baskets.
  • With under a minute, the Wolverines scored on back-to-back possessions cutting the lead, 66-64. Bella Skobel would connect on a pair of free throws to give the Bison a two-possession lead with 20 seconds to go. The Bison turned the ball over leading 68-66, the Wolverines next possession resulted in a foul to put the Wolverines at the foul line. They missed the first and capitalized on the second. Makenzee Mason sealed the three point lead going 1-for-2 from the foul line with one second left on the clock.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Makenzee Mason led the Bison with 23 points. She added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Mason shot 60.0% from the field and hit five threes.
  • Lindsey Garrison added 14 points with four made threes and three assists.
  • Bella Skobel added 10 points.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Bethany went 22-for-54 from the field and 12-for-27 from behind the arc. Grove City was held to 26-for-70 from the field and 8-for-22 from behind the arc.
  • The Wolverines out rebounded the Bison, 44-40 with 16 offensive rebounds and 20 second chance points.
