Women's Basketball: Bison hold on to defeat Golden Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team used a strong start to defeat Geneva College, 69-56, Saturday afternoon.  

GAME FLOW

  • Bethany opened the game on a 10-0 run led by three point buckets from Lindsey Garrison and Makenzee Mason. Kate Botti chipped in scoring a layup to begin the game. After a Golden Tornadoes' time out, the GT would cut the deficit to five. Bethany held a 15-8 lead after the first stanza.
  • In the second, the Bison and Golden Tornadoes would battle back and forth. The Bison would outscore the Golden Tornadoes, 18-15. The difference in the second quarter, was the Bison hit five three's while holding Geneva to one made shot from behind the arc. Junior Lindsey Garrison went 4-for-4 from behind the arc in the second stanza.
  • The Bison led 33-23 at the half.
  • Geneva battled and cut the Bethany lead to seven, but the Bison balloon the lead to double-digits until the Golden Tornadoes chipped away once again. After seeing their lead cut to eight, the Bison went on a 20-11 run to end the third quarter, leading 59-42.
  • Despite being outscored, 14-10 in the fourth, the Bison would hold on for a 69-56 win.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Lindsey Garrison led the Bison with 27 points with six made three's. She shot 8-for-17 from the field and 6-for-11 from behind the arc.
  • Bella Skobel added 14 points.
  • Kate Botti had a team-high 12 rebounds. She added three assists and three steals.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Both teams were close in field goal percentage with the Bison holding the slight advantage. The Green and White shot 33.3% (23-69) while Geneva shot 32.9% (24-73).
  • The difference in the game was the Bison shot 11-30 from behind the arc while the Golden Tornadoes shot 4-31.
  • Both teams were even on the boards with each team pulling in 50 rebounds.
