Women's Basketball: Sharp shooting Bison defeat Barons
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Bethany College women's basketball team earned their third straight victory after defeating the Franciscan University Barons, 89-49, Wednesday afternoon.
GAME FLOW
- The Barons lifted the scoring lid first but their lead only lasted thirty seconds as the Bison knotted the game at 2-2 after Kate Botti made a fast break layup that sparked the Green and White scoring. Bella Skobel hit back-to-back three's adding to the Bison lead. Bethany extended the lead to the double-digits just under the five minute mark after Skobel scored her ninth point of the game. At the end of the first stanza the Bison led, 31-11.
- In the second quarter, momentum shifted to the Barons. Franciscan went on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit in half and would outscore Bethany, 18-12 in the second quarter.
- Bethany led 43-29 at the half.
- The Bison started off the second half shooting the lights out. The Green and White outscored the Barons, 46-20 in the second half.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Bella Skobel led the Bison with 22 points with five assists and two rebounds. She went 8-for-14 from the field.
- Lindsey Garrison added 14 points and three assists.
- Alyssa Serensky had 11 points.
- Ashleigh Wheeler led the Bison with six assists.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Bethany shot 54.5% from the field (36-for-66) and 45.8% (11-for-24) from behind the arc.
- The Bison held the Barons to 30.8% (20-for-65) from the field and 33.3% (6-for-18) from behind the arc.
- The Bison scored 36 points off of 20 Barons' turnovers.
