Bethany track teams compete at Denison Lid-Lifter

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 21) – The Bethany College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Denison Lid-Lifter Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The event featured programs from NCAA Division II, III and the NAIA. The men finished ninth out of 11 schools, while the women finished in 11th place. Division II West Virginia Wesleyan finished on top at the end in both the men's and women's standings.

Senior Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville), the reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week, earned the Bison points in both the 200- and 400-meter dash. He finished the 200 in 23.10 seconds to place third overall and crossed the tape in the 400 second overall at 50.97 seconds.

Junior Ed Maxwell posted points in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing at an even nine seconds to tie for 10th overall.

The 4x400 relay of Butler, Maxwell, senior Nate Cumberworth (Jewett, Ohio/Harrison Central) and Marshall Murray also added points to Bethany's final total. The group established a time of three minutes, 36.44 seconds to claim second place in the event.

Junior Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) and sophomore Patience Frazier (Washington, Pa./Washington) helped tally points for the women's team. Borsch finished the 60-meter hurdles sixth overall, crossing the tape at 9.92 seconds to lead the women on the track. Frazier paced the team in the field, finishing seventh overall in the shotput with a throw of 10.03 meters (32-11.00) and seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 10.88 meters (35-8.50).

The Bethany track teams will compete again next week, Saturday, January 28 when they head to Columbus, Ohio to participate in the Capital Invitational.
