Track & Field teams compete well at Bethany Invitational

BETHANY, W.Va. (April 1) – The Bethany College men's and women's track & field team's hosted its annual Bethany Invitational at Bison Stadium and Hoag Field Saturday.
The Bison men finished fifth out of 13 schools, while the women finished in 10th place. The men's team crown went to NCAA Division II West Virginia Wesleyan, while the women's champion was Divison II California University of Pennsylvania.
Senior Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the men's efforts on the track. He won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.36 seconds and claimed fifth in the 400-meter dash after finishing at 51.27 seconds.
Also on the track for the Bison men, sophomore Byron Mayers (Brownsville, Pa./Brownsville) established a personal-record in the 100-meter dash, running the event in 11.26 seconds to finish in second place, while junior Ed Maxwell (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.33 seconds.
Freshman Amanda Gower (Washington, Pa./Trinity) helped lead the women's team on the track with a pair of top-six finishes. She took sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of one minute, 3.63 seconds and placed sixth in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 27.32 seconds.
The men's long distance efforts were led by junior Ryan Donnally. He claimed the second-fastest time in the men's 10,000-meter run with a time of 33 minutes, 19.61 seconds and followed it up with a time of four minutes, 22.08 seconds in the 1,500-meter run to take eighth place in the event.
Junior Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) claimed a seventh-place time in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the tape at 15.98 seconds.
In the field for the women, senior Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) placed fifth in the high jump, clearing four feet, 7.75 inches in the process. Sophomore Patience Frazier (Washington, Pa./Washington) also collected points for the Bison after she took third place in the javelin with a throw of 34.90 meters (114 feet, six inches).
In the jumps, freshman Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Academy), the reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Region Rookie of the Week, had a pair of top-five finishes. He placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.45 meters (21 feet, two inches) and took fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 12 meters.
Meanwhile, senior Javonte' Trujillo (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) placed fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.72 meters (five feet, 7.75 inches).
The throwers also posted a pair of top-five finishes. Sophomore Jordan Hunkins (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum) claimed fifth place in the shot put with a heave of 13.02 meters (42 feet, 8.75 inches), while sophomore Matt Dunn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) took fifth in the javelin with a throw of 44.82 meters (147 feet, even).
The Bison track & field teams return to competition this Saturday, April 8 when they head to Alliance, Ohio to participate in the Mount Union Invitational.
