Frantz, Sallah-Mohammed earn victories at PAC Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Feb. 23) – The Bethany College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships held at the Watson and Tressel Training Site Thursday.

The men finished in fifth place overall with 69 points, while the women registered 42 points to finish seventh overall. Thomas More won the men's team title with 112.5 points, while Waynesburg claimed the women's team title with 146.5 points.

Senior Andre Butler (Poolsville, Md./Poolsville) led the Bison men on the track. He finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.99 seconds, a new personal-record in the event. Butler also posted a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the tape at 22.21 seconds. The Maryland native added a sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.80 meters (five feet, 10.75 inches).

On the women's side, sophomore Leighanna Frantz (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) won the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters (four feet, 11.5 inches) with her winning leap.

Freshman Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) continued his stellar rookie indoor campaign to lead the men in the field. He won the long jump with a new personal-best mark of 6.76 meters (22 feet, 2.25 inches) and placed second in the high jump after clearing 1.88 meters (six feet, two inches).

Sophomore Marshall Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) recorded a second place finish in the 800 meters, posting a time of one minute, 58.49 seconds in the race.

Sophomore Patience Frazier (Washington, Pa./Washington) scored the Bison women points in a pair of field events. She placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 11.81 meters (38 feet, nine inches) and finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 10.04 meters (32 feet, 11.25 inches).

Junior Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) led the women on the track, scoring points in three individual events. She claimed third place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.73 seconds, crossed the tape fourth in the 400-meter at one minute, two seconds and recorded a seventh place time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.60 seconds.

Also scoring points for the women were senior Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) with a fifth place finish in the high jump (four feet, nine inches) and freshman Amanda Gower (Washington, Pa./Trinity) who posted an eighth place time in the 400 meters (one minute, 3.32 seconds).

Also scoring points for the men were senior Aaron Frye (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) in the high jump (fourth place) and long jump (eighth place); sophomore Jordan Hunkins (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum) in the weight throw (sixth place); junior Donald Bierhals (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) in the one-mile run (fifth place); junior Ed Maxwell (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) in the 60-meter hurdles (fifth place); sophomore Jelani Williams (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) in the 400 meters (sixth place); sophomore Byron Mayers (Brownville, Pa./Brownsville) in the 200-meter dash (eighth place); and senior Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) in the 5,000-meter run (sixth place).
