Bison track and field teams compete at Capital Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Jan. 28) – The Bethany College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Capital Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The men finished the event fourth out of eight squads, while the women finished in seventh place overall.

Sophomore Jelani Williams (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) crossed the tape in first-place to win the 400-meter dash at 53.43 seconds.

Senior Andre Butler (Poolsville, Md./Poolsville) ran the 200-meter dash in 22.69 seconds to place second, while finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash at 7.12 seconds. Butler also Bethany points in the high jump, clearing 1.78 meters to take fourth place.

Sophomore Marshall Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) tallied points for the Bison with a fifth place finish, posting a time of two minutes, 3.38 seconds.

The team of Williams, Butler, Murray and freshman Hunter Klein (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) won the 4x400-meter relay, establishing a time of three minutes, 32.79 seconds.

On the women's side, junior Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) claimed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.75 seconds and took seventh in the 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 8.45 seconds.

Sophomore Leighanna Frantz (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) took third overall in the high jump, clearing 1.43 meters, while senior Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) followed in fourth place.

Sophomore Alex Massari (Monogahela, Pa./Ringgold) and sophomore Patience Frazier (Washington, Pa./Washington) added points for the women. Massari finished in eighth place in the 400-meter dash, while Frazier took fourth in the weight throw

Also earning points for the Bison men at the event were junior Donald Bierhals (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) in both the one mile and 3,000-meter runs, freshmen Boboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va./Fishburne Military) and freshman Brandon Tranum (Keyser, W.Va./Keyser) in the long jump, Sallah-Mohammed and Connor Easton in the triple jump, sophomore Jordan Hunkins (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum) in the weight throw and shot put and freshman Charles Blango (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) in the weight throw.

The track teams will return to competition on Saturday, February 4 when they head to Alliance, Ohio to participate in the Mount Union Invitational.
