Where Are They Now Series - Taylor Cassidy '13, Women's Volleyball

Taylor Cassidy '13 is our first alumni to be featured in our "Where are They Now" series. Cassidy was a key component with the Bison over her career. She helped the Green and White win the ECAC Championship three years in a row (2010-12). Cassidy holds the single-season record for kills (495) and is fourth on the career list with 1,243 kills. In 2012 she was named to the All-PAC First Team and received All-PAC Honorable Mention in 2011.

Currently, Cassidy has taken her talents to Florida, where she is an Associate Attorney at Stanton IP Law Firm.

What is your current job title and what does the position entail?

I am currently working as an Associate Attorney at Stanton IP Law Firm. My position involves leading the litigation team and representing clients in trademark, copyright and patent disputes in federal court and before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board. I also assist many of our clients with their transactional business needs to help them protect and monetize their intellectual property.

If you can recall, why did you choose to attend Bethany?

I knew that I wanted to play volleyball at a small college, and Bethany's volleyball program was very young and the growth of the team looked promising. Once I met Coach Kline and visited the campus (which is breathtaking), I just knew it was the place for me.

How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?

Coach Kline runs a rigid program. It is demanding. You have to be willing to sacrifice a lot of your time and energy for the good of the program. BCVB taught me so much about leadership, teamwork, goal setting, time management and so much more. Being a college athlete, even in a Division III program is no joke. The commitment that it requires is a skill that I carry and continue to work on to this day.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at Bethany?

Although I am happy to still hold the record at Bethany for most single-season kills, the accomplishment that I am the most proud of is my team's victory over St. Vincent in the ECAC Championship game in 2010. St. Vincent had knocked us out of the Playoffs that season a couple of weeks prior in a nail-biting 5 game match that came down to the wire. When we found out that we would have the opportunity for a rematch against them, we were fired up. We won in a three-game shutout on their home court. It was BCVB's first Championship. That 2010 season was the foundation of the program that you see today. That's where the legacy all started and I am so proud to have been a part of that group of women.

What is your most fond memory of Bethany athletics?

Just spending time with my teammates. During season, we would spend most of our days together. Along with practice and conditioning sessions, we would eat all of our meals together. They were my first friends at Bethany and I think about those times we spent together all the time.

What piece of advice would you have for current Bethany student-athletes?

Cherish every moment you have the opportunity to be on the court or field. Don't take a single second for granted. You blink and it's all over and you'll wish you could relive those moments again.

What was your favorite non-athletics activity at Bethany?

Sitting on the deck of Phi Mu with my sisters. LIOB <3
