Where Are They Now Series -John Falconi '10, Football / Track and Field

John Falconi '10 is next on our "Alumni Where are They Now" series. John was a dual sport athlete, competing in football and track and field while at Bethany.  Since graduating John returned to Bethany and is the Senior Assistant Director of Enrollment and Recruiting Coordinator. He also is an assistant coach for the football and track and field teams.

We caught up with John to hear about his experience as a student-athlete at Bethany College and how being a part of the football and track and field teams led to his career in higher education.

What is your current job title and what does the position entail?

I work with students who are interesting in learning more and attending in Bethany College.

If you can recall, why did you choose to attend Bethany?

A friend of mine was being recruited by Bethany and I was looking at transferring from my previous University so I looked up Bethany and came to visit and the rest fell into place.

How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?

It gave me the experience to get right into coaching and athletic administration duties after graduation. My athletic involvement gave me the experience to become a football and track coach and athletic director at the high school level before I even turned 30.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at Bethany?

Oh man. Lots of accomplishments come to mind. Academically I would say graduating with my degree in Sports Management. Athletically I would say for track it would have been doing 7 events in the first ever Bethany Quad meet in May 2010 (100,200, 4x1, 4x4, long jump, shot put, javelin) and for football helping us win 14 games over 4 years after previously winning 3 games in 3 years before our class arrived in 2006.

What is your most fond memory of Bethany athletics?

Overall I would say softball winning the PAC, baseball playing in the ECAC playoffs, basketball playing in multiple PAC title games and going to the national playoffs. We were very blessed during that 4 years that we got to see a fair share of PAC titles comes to Bethany in a fair number of our sports.

What piece of advice would you have for current Bethany student-athletes?

Don't blink and don't take things for granted. Time is undefeated and it eventually catches up with all of us. So cherish every moment you have playing because once it's gone it's gone forever and all you'll have left is pride in what you accomplished or regret that you didn't try hard enough.

What was your favorite non-athletics activity at Bethany?

Going to class actually! Proud to say I never missed a class unexcused in 4 years!
