Where Are They Now Series - Ken McVay 69', Football

Ken McVay '69 is next on our "Alumni Where are They Now" series. Ken was a four-year letterman at linebacker for the Bethany College football team. He was a member of two firsts for the Bethany College football team, winning Bethany's first PAC Championship in 1965 and going undefeated in 1966 to win Bethany's second PAC Championship. Before being drafted into the U.S. Military, Ken played in the NFL pre-season for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

We caught up with Ken to hear about his experience as a student-athlete at Bethany College and how those experiences led his career as a stock broker.

What is your current job title and what does the position entail?

Retired Stock Broker for Wells Fargo Advisors

If you can recall, why did you choose to attend Bethany?

Wanted to PLAY football but knew the great education from this highly rated school was more important.

How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?

Being part of a team sport teaches what life is really all about.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at Bethany?

Being a part of the first ever PAC championship, back to back PAC championships, first and to date only undefeated season, co-captain senior year, and being inducted into the Hall of Fame induction in 2019.

What is your most fond memory of Bethany athletics?

Getting to know legendary coach Bob Goin.

What piece of advice would you have for current Bethany student-athletes?

Be the best you can be and remember it's all about the education.

What was your favorite non-athletics activity at Bethany?

Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
