Where Are They Now Series - Taylor Verrico '14, Women's Basketball

Taylor Verrico '14 continues our "Alumni Where are They Now" series. Taylor was a member of the women's basketball team during her time at Bethany. During her senior year she broke the record for most three-pointers in a single game against Washington and Jefferson hitting seven and currently sits second on the Single-Game Three-Pointers list. Taylor earned All-PAC Honorable Mention Honors twice in her career.

Taylor has taken her talents as a sports anchor and reporter in Louisiana. She also does freelance work for ESPN. We caught up with Taylor to reminisce about her experiences and memories at Bethany.

What is your current job title and what does the position entail?

I currently work as a sports anchor/ reporter in Louisiana. I build sportscasts and deliver current/ breaking sports news live on TV. In addition to my full time anchoring job, I freelance for ESPN as a sideline reporter and Women's basketball color analyst.

If you can recall, why did you choose to attend Bethany?

I decided to go to Bethany because I knew I wanted to play college basketball and when I visited the campus I fell in love with it.

How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?

The path I chose was because I love sports so much. Being a colligate athlete makes you such a strong person. It shows you're tough and can accomplish anything thrown your way. For me, it was the reason I decided to go into sports broadcasting. When I graduated from Bethany, I wasn't ready to give up basketball so I decided I wanted to still be around it.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at Bethany?

My greatest academic accomplishment was passing comps because that was NOT easy! My greatest athletic accomplishment was probably my last game of my college career at W&J when I hit seven threes and tied the school record for most in a game. That was pretty cool.

What is your most fond memory of Bethany athletics?

One of the best memories I have from Bethany athletics is my sophomore year when our team went to the Bahamas. That's a trip I'll never forget.

What piece of advice would you have for current Bethany student-athletes?

My advice to Bethany student-athletes today would be stick it out. Sometimes it can be so hard juggling everything. But, if you can get through all four years, you'll look back and be glad you did. Playing college basketball at Bethany gave me my best friends in the whole wide world.

What was your favorite non-athletics activity at Bethany?

Bubbas. That place got us all through some tough times!
