Where Are They Now Series - Marissa Holiday (Bosley) '17, Softball

Marissa Holiday (Bosley) '17 continues our "Alumni Where are They Now" series. Marissa was a member of the softball team during her time at Bethany. An All-PAC First Team and Second Team honoree, Marissa has taken her talents to a different field. She is a social worker for a nursing home in Marietta, Ohio.

We caught up with Marissa to hear about her experience as a student-athlete at Bethany College and how those experiences led her to her career today.

If you can recall, why did you choose to attend Bethany?

Coach Forsty and at the time Coach Marinacci (Mooch) came to my high school softball games and I loved them instantly.

How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?

I may just be the social worker in my nursing home building but I have to work as a team with the families, patients, nurses, therapist, and doctors to provide the best care. Coach Forsty's saying be 1% better each day has carried with me as I continue to learn and be a better social worker daily.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at Bethany?

Starting all 4 years of my college career as a catcher. A particular moment that stands out in my mind during my time on the field is playing a DH at W&J striking out to one particular pitcher that day and in game 2 they brought her back in to pitch to me for a "easy out". We needed to win this particular game to make the PAC tournament and I hit a home run on the first pitch and we won.  Adapt and overcome as coach Forsty said often to me. Academically I changed my major going into my junior year and graduated a year later than scheduled, but I didn't get discouraged and finished.

What is your most fond memory of Bethany athletics?

Playing in Florida every year during spring break.

What piece of advice would you have for current Bethany student-athletes?

Always do the extra rep at practice or in the weight room. You can't lift the same weight or go through the motions and get stronger or better.

What was your favorite non-athletics activity at Bethany?

It would be a lie if I didn't say Bubba's.
